Democracy Commission Contribution Cap Recommendation is Not a Consensus Proposal

Various proposals to cap campaign contributions to state races are circulating, including a recommendation by the Governor's Commission on Strengthening Utah's Democracy. The proposals are generating a great deal of media attention (see KSL editorial).  

The Democracy Commission, in a relatively close 10-7 vote, proposed placing $4,000 limits on individuals and corporations contributing to statewide races, and $2,000 for legislative races.

I am a member of the commission and I was in the minority voting against the limits. ...
