Rob Bishop: Publicity Hound
What's going on with Congressman Rob Bishop?
He used to be Utah's invisible Congressman, rarely sending out news releases and rarely getting his name in the papers. In the Deseret News column which we co-write, Frank Pignanelli and I used to regularly poke fun at Bishop for being so quiet and unnoticed. Now we may have to poke fun at him for being a media star (well, maybe not quite).
Bishop has suddenly become a lot more aggressive with communications. Mostly through the Congressional Western Caucus, which he chairs, Bishop is issuing press releases daily or more often, and he's being quoted in a wide variety of publications.
His communications blitz probably has a lot to do with the Western Caucus. The group is very active in a variety of issues, especially federalism and defending western interests, and with the chairmanship comes a responsibility to generate some publicity.
Or, maybe Bishop is laying the groundwork for a future gubernatorial or U.S. Senate race.
I'm going to try to meet with him soon to talk about federalism issues, so I'll ask him.

That's my guess. He's running for Senate!
Samuel.
