Politico looks at a study from the firm EyeTrackShop. They showed voters pictures of Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan. They found that Obama captured the attention 50% faster than Romney and Obama/Biden was 40% faster than Romney/Ryan.
Jeff Bander, president of EyeTrackShop, says they are able to track both where respondents look and for how long, and there are two explanations for Obama and Biden’s advantage in their studies.
“I think, obviously, Obama has more recognition than Romney,” Bander said, adding, “Normally, we look at things we like.”
“I think with politics, we’ve found that there’s a lot of emotion involved here. So when they’re looking at two people, they’re going to look at them like they look at their sports team. They’re going to look at their teams first and longer.”
