"Endorsements Matter" and "Turning Weakness Into Strength"
(Note: UtahPolicy.com has invited Mike Winder and Kevin Fayles, two candidates for mayor of West Valley City to share their campaign experiences this year. To read earlier posts and biographies of the two candidates, see the Campaign Journal page.)
Mike Winder: In a campaign for public office it is important to seek out endorsements of key individuals and interest groups. After all, a community is a beautiful mosaic of different people and organizations. I appreciate the many individuals and groups who I have been able to meet with and who are supporting my candidacy for mayor.
Kevin Fayles: Have you ever been in one of those job interviews where they ask you to
talk about some of your weaknesses? Of course, we all know you're not supposed to tell them things like: "My coworkers always leave anonymous bottles of mouthwash on my desk," or, "I was fired from my last job because I just couldn't keep my hands out of the cash register." Instead, you're supposed to respond with statements like, "I'm afraid I'm a bit of a perfectionist-I just can't rest until the job is done exactly the way it should be."
