Hatch Says "Obamacare" Imperils America’s Two-Party System
In an interview with the conservative news website CNSNews.com, Senator Orrin Hatch says healthcare reform could lead to the demise of the Republican party.
Hatch says, if the Democrats pass healthcare reform, it's the first step to make Americans more and more dependent on the Democratic party.
And if they get there then of course you're going to have a rough time, you're going to have a very rough time, having a two-party system in this country. Because almost everybody's going to say all we ever were, all we ever are, all we ever hope to be depends on the Democratic Party.
Hatch does seem to backtrack later in the interview when asked if healthcare reform was part of a larger plan.
"Do I believe they're that diabolical? I don't believe most of 'em are. But I think some of 'em are. I think some of 'em, actually -- maybe diabolical's too hard a word. But the fact is they really, really believe in socialized medicine."
Here's the video of the interview.
