Is Hatch Antagonizing Hispanics With Sotomayor Vote?
In an op-ed, Gebe Martinez notes: "After announcing his vote against Judge Sonia Sotomayor to be the first Hispanic on the United States Supreme Court, Utah Republican Sen. Orrin Hatch sounded sorrowful. 'Tell them I'm sorry,' Hatch told a reporter, referring to the Latino community. 'The Hispanic people are very important to me,' added Hatch ... 'I feel really badly, because I wanted to' support Sotomayor, Hatch emphasized. But not badly enough to actually vote yes and win favor with Latinos, the fastest-growing voting bloc in the country."
