Pyrah: Why Lee Didn't Slam Bennett
Joe Pyrah speculates about why Sen. Bob Bennett's newest GOP primary challenger, Mike Lee, chose to deflect questions about Bennett at his press conference Tuesday: "Could be a couple of things. First, Bennett's challengers are racing hard for delegates. ... Delegates are the ideologues of the party, so talking Constitution and limited federal power is speaking their language and directly to them rather than trying to frame Bennett as the bad guy. ... Second, Bennett isn't hated. He's a nice guy who has brought a lot of project funding to the state. ... He also has some decent seniority. That means something in Congress whether you like it or not. So maybe Lee gains some points by not bringing him up at all so the good things don't come up either."
