"Transparency" and "School Bonds"

(Note: UtahPolicy.com has invited Mike Winder and Kevin Fayles, two candidates for mayor of West Valley City to share their campaign experiences this year. To read earlier posts and biographies of the two candidates, see the Campaign Journal page.)

Kevin Fayles: Two days ago, I attended West Valley's city council meeting. When I arrived, there were perhaps 20 people in attendance. After the new city employees were introduced, about eight people left. After a municipal committee member briefly spoke, three more people left. By the time I made my remarks during the public session, I think less than ten people were still there.

Mike Winder: The municipal campaigns going on this election cycle are important, but in the Granite School District, an important ballot measure is also under consideration-Proposition 1, a $256,000,000 general obligation bond.  So while there is much I could say about my campaign for mayor of West Valley City, today I choose to take this forum to talk about an issue critical to the children of our city and the other communities that are part of the Granite School District.
