Utah's Budget and Taxes

On Friday, Governor Gary Herbert releases his budget recommendations for the 2010 Fiscal Year.  Herbert says he wants to balance the budget without raising taxes.  We asked our political insiders whether Herbert will be able to accomplish that goal, especially since the state is facing a budget hole of nearly $1 billion next year. 

Our Democratic insiders were very pessimistic that the legislature could balance the budget without severe cuts to public education or social services.  Republicans felt lawmakers could hold public education harmless while social services were bound to take a hit next year.
