Hatch statement on the president’s Fiscal Year 2018 budget

In response to the President’s Fiscal Year (FY) 2018 Budget that was submitted to Congress today, Senate Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) issued the following statement:

“I share the President’s goal of balancing the budget without raising taxes and want to work with this administration to advance pro-growth policies that will reignite the American economy. By coupling the rollback of job-crushing regulations with a tax overhaul and smart program integrity reforms, this budget blueprint strives to produce more opportunity for more Americans. But, this is just the start. While revived economic growth will ultimately lead to a drop in the nation’s deficits and debt, we must study this budget in its entirety and carefully examine it to ensure that the efficiencies and savings suggested are sustainable in the long run.”

This week the Senate Finance Committee, which has the largest jurisdiction in either House of Congress, overseeing more than 50 percent of the federal budget, will hold a hearing on Thursday to examine the Administration’s budget request for the Treasury Department and current policies to overhaul the nation’s tax code. Details for the hearing can be found here.
