The City of Moab is delighted to announce that Lisa J. Church will become the City’s first Communications Manager.
She will be in charge of coordinating strategic and day-to-day external communications, strengthening the City’s resident engagement efforts, and supporting internal communication improvements among City departments.
“Lisa knows our community, understands our issues, and brings a wealth of skills and experience to the job,” said Mayor Dave Sakrison. “She’s a great fit. We are fortunate to have her join our team at the City.”
Lisa has lived in Moab since 1995. For more than 20 years she worked as a freelance journalist, writing news articles and producing photographs for magazines and newspapers including The Salt Lake Tribune, Mother Jones and Moab’s own Times-Independent. Since the fall of 2006 she has been the editor-in-chief of The Times-Independent, where she supervised and directed the newspaper’s writing staff and was responsible for managing the overall news content of the paper.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Bowling Green State University in Ohio, and completed three years of graduate study at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas, before moving to Kansas City, Missouri, in 1987. She has worked as a college English instructor and a marketing and public relations director for both arts and education nonprofit organizations in Kansas City and Moab.
Lisa also served as editor of two monthly trade magazines ‒ one covering the paving industry in Canada and another focused on industrial lift equipment. She has also worked as the editor of a weekly newspaper in Kansas City, assistant editor of the monthly Kansas City Magazine, and assistant editor of a weekly newspaper in Parkville, Missouri.
She will start work at the City in September.
