Legislative Wrap Up

With one day left in 2015 Utah legislative session, both the Utah Transportation Coalition and Prosperity 2020 campaign are in their final push for achieving a landmark investment in Utah’s future.

Now is the last chance to encourage friends, colleagues and constituents to contact their legislators and support future economic success. Much remains relating to the Chamber’s priorities, with some success already taking place, such as the passage of a primary seatbelt law and other important education priorities.

Education

The 2015 Legislature has supported a number of strategic measures to further state goals to improve Utah students’ reading and language skills, improve Utah students' math and analytics skills, improve Utah students' college readiness, improve instruction in schools and increase the number of Utahns with postsecondary degrees and certificates.

Many of the components of Prosperity through Education, the 5-year plan for education, have strong support.

Supporting education will ensure all aspects of the plan continue the needed momentum.

We are down to the wire! During this last week of the legislative session, your support will be needed to make 2015 the year that we invest in our future and continue to move forward toward making Utah a top 10 state for education in the country.

Education is the key to a prosperous future in Utah.

Transportation

We must continue our commitment to invest in Utah’s transportation system.  "If Utah is to remain one of the most attractive states for business, we need to make sound investments to minimize safety risk, congestion and un-necessary delays in the delivering of goods to Utah's citizens." Richard A. Clasby, Executive Director, Utah Trucking Association. We must keep our competitive advantage in transportation.

"Unfortunately, while our transportation needs remain in the fast lane and are even accelerating, the gasoline tax we use to fund these needs is stuck in the slow lane in second gear." Gov. Gary Herbert

It is important to act now! "The Legislature must do more than deliberate. It must now act." David R. Golden, Chair, Utah Transportation Coalition; Executive Vice President, Wells Fargo Commercial Banking Group
