The Alliance for a Better Utah is excited to announce that Rachel Sanders has joined the organization as its new Executive Director.
Rachel’s unique life story – growing up on a cattle ranch in Texas, experience living in the foster care system in California, and established track record of implementing programs and giving voice to those in need, particularly Utah’s refugee and immigrant communities – make her the ideal candidate to lead Better Utah as the organization enters its next phase of growth.
“Rachel brings a wealth of knowledge from her previous work experiences, making her a wonderful asset to the Alliance for a Better Utah,” stated Better Utah’s Founder and Board President Josh Kanter. “Perhaps most importantly, she brings passion and enthusiasm to work on important policy issues facing Utah. Her wit and excitement will make her a great asset for Better Utah, as well as within the greater community.”

Her unwavering dedication to fairness for all people combines with her years of experience with those most marginalized by our current systems,” expressed Peggy Cain, Director of the Master of Arts in Community Leadership and Master of Education Programs at Westminster College. “This combination of spirit and understanding will advance Better Utah’s mission in important ways.”
“I am honored to be a part of the Better Utah team. I feel I can work at the structural level to effect change on issues that impact our local community,” says Sanders. “Exposure to numerous issues – particularly those surrounding the working poor – has left me passionate about social and economic justice, including equal access to education and healthcare.”
Prior to joining Better Utah, Sanders developed the Family Liaison and Outreach Program – Promise South Salt Lake, for South Salt Lake City. Sanders received a Bachelor’s degree in Cultural Studies from Washington State University. She will graduate with a Master’s degree in Community Leadership from Westminster College at the end of April.
