Herbert drops from list of ‘most popular’ governors

Gov. Gary Herbert’s approval rating in Utah has slipped a bit according to a new national poll.

The Morning Consult poll of governors finds Herbert with a 56% job approval rating in Utah. That’s down from the 61% he had in July of this year, and it was just enough to knock him off the top-10 list of “most popular” governors.

According to the latest Morning Consult numbers, 56% of Utahns approve of Herbert’s job performance, while 29% disapprove. 18% say they don’t know. The poll has a 2% margin of error.

The latest UtahPolicy.com survey found 67% of Utahns approved of Herbert’s job performance with 27% disapproving, giving him a net +40 approval rating.

According to Morning Consult, Massachusetts Governor Charlie Barker is the most popular in the nation with 69% approval. Maryland’s Larry Hogan, Arkansas’ Asa Hutchinson, Alabama’s Kay Ivey and North Dakota’s Doug Burgum round out the top five.

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is the least popular governor in the country with 77% of residents who disapprove of his job performance.
