Sen. Brian Shiozawa resigns from the Utah Legislature

Republican Sen. Brian Shiozawa has accepted a job with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Shiozawa, who represents Cottonwood Heights in the Utah Legislature, resigned Monday to take a position with HHS based out of Denver. He posted the news on his Facebook page.

Shiozawa, a physician by trade, was at the forefront of legislative battles over Medicaid expansion and legalizing medical marijuana.

His replacement will be selected by the Salt Lake County GOP. His seat will be up for election in 2018.
