A right-wing super PAC that supported Roy Moore’s failed Senate bid in Alabama is raising money to find a conservative candidate for Utah’s open Senate seat and is pushing Mia Love as a possibility.
The Daily Beast reports that the Solution Fund PAC has sent out a fundraising email featuring Mia Love as a possible challenger to Mitt Romney, who is expected to jump into the race to replace Sen. Orrin Hatch who announced his retirement on Tuesday.
Solution Fund PAC disclosed $11,000 in spending in support of Rep. Mia Love’s potential candidacy for the Senate seat currently held by Sen. Orrin Hatch, who announced on Tuesday that he would not run for reelection. Though Romney is considered the likeliest Republican nominee for the seat—and has signaled that he intends to run—the Solution Fund’s call for a Love candidacy came just hours after Hatch’s announcement.
Dave Hansen, Love’s campaign manager, laughed off any speculation that she would jump into the race, much less challenge Romney for the GOP nomination.
“It’s stupid, and I don’t know where this is coming from,” he said.
The email’s fundraising pitch hits all of the conservative dog whistles.
“Utah is home to the most exciting young Republican Conservative in Congress, Mia Love.
“While Romney is supported by Obama’s Vice President Biden, Rep. Mia Love (R-UT) called out Michelle Obama for her false politics of division that Republicans are ‘all men, all white.’
“Mia blasted Obama: ‘Maybe Michelle Obama didn’t notice that I am not white and I am not a a (sic) man!.'”
