Democrat Doug Owens Far Behind in 4th District Cash Race

Doug Owens

Doug Owens has some serious ground to make up if he’s going to compete with Mia Love’s campaign cash come November.

Owens’ latest campaign filings show the Democrat has $209,672 in cash, which is less than a quarter of $872,999 in cash Love reports on hand.

Owens took in $161,580 in contributions during the last quarter, compared with the $746,913 in contributions Love reported for the previous three months.

Most of Love’s spending in the last quarter went to a large TV ad buy that is scheduled to start in mid-September. Owens made some news by reserving $300,000 in TV ad time, but he won’t have to pay for those ads until he actually uses them.

UtahPolicy rates the 4th Congressional District race as “Solid Republican,” meaning, barring a major change in the dynamics of the race, Love is expected to win easily come November.

The Owens campaign did not return a call for comment.
