Race Rating Change: Utah Senate 2

Money makes the world (of politics) go round and the Republican candidate to try and unseat Sen. Jim Dabakis simply doesn’t have any.

The latest round of financial disclosure forms for Sen. Dabakis and his Republican opponent, Jacquie Nielsen, shows Dabakis with a nearly 178-1 cash advantage heading into the fall campaign season. That’s a staggering disparity.

Senate District 2 has been a Democratic stronghold for a number of years, and that kind of cash disparity is not going to get the job done if Republicans are going to have a shot to take this seat.

That’s why we are moving this race from “solid Democrat” to “safe Democrat.” At this time, we see no path to victory in November for the GOP in this seat.

Previous rating: Solid Democrat

New rating: Safe Democrat
