Sale In Utah Saves Ski Season

Vail’s purchase Thursday of Park City Mountain ensures that all of Park City’s three major ski resorts will be running this winter, reports The New York Times.

Writes Jack Healy:

A bitter fight in Utah over prime skiing terrain and millions of dollars ended Thursday, to the relief of town officials and business owners who feared that the feud could upend wintertime tourism in the mountain idyll of Park City.

Vail Resorts, the Colorado-based ski giant, said that it had bought the Park City Mountain Resort for $182.5 million, ending a long dispute and clearing away the threat that an eviction battle could have shuttered the resort for a season or created enough uncertainty to scare away tourists.

“Collectively, I could hear the whole community sigh,” Mayor Jack Thomas said. “It’s a good thing to have your economic forecast suddenly turn positive.”
