Utah Job Growth Strong Again, Unemployment Remains Low

Utah’s economy continues to grow stronger as the state’s job growth rate increased while unemployment remains among the lowest in the nation, according to new data released by the Dept. of Workforce Services Friday.

“Utah’s economic performance continues to be the envy of the nation,” said Gov. Gary R. Herbert. “There is a great deal of competition in the private sector but our commitment to cultivating a business-friendly environment has proven to create economic opportunities and a better quality of life for the people of our state.”

Every sector of Utah’s economy, the fourth most diverse in the nation, posted positive job growth numbers. Over the past 12 months, Utah’s economy has added 47,600 jobs, good for job growth rate of 3.7 percent. The state unemployment rate held steady at 3.5 percent. Utah continues to outpace the rest of the nation as the national job growth rate is 2.0 percent with unemployment at 5.9 percent.
