Last week the Wasatch Front Regional Council adopted the 2015-2040 Regional Transportation Plan (RTP). The RTP identifies the major roadway, transit and bike projects and services needed over the next 25 years in Salt Lake, Weber, Davis and a portion of Box Elder Counties.
Utah's population is projected to nearly double by 2050. As we grow, we'll need new and better ways of getting around. Keeping people connected and commerce moving requires an integrated transportation system where Utahns have more transportation choices.
The 2015-2040 Regional Transportation Plan provides more transportation choices by establishing a critical blueprint for the future of transportation in our local communities and across the region. Final adoption of this plan is the culmination of a four-year process that has involved extensive input from city and county officials, transportation partners, residents, and other interested stakeholders.
The RTP identifies the balanced investments in road, transit and bike infrastructure that are needed across the state to stay ahead of our future population growth and to respond to market demands for a range of housing and transportation choices.
The RTP accounts for the preservation and maintenance needs of our current infrastructure to responsibly take care of what we have. It outlines improvements that will make the transportation system operate more efficiently, and it identifies new projects that will be needed in the future. This proactive planning will help to support a stronger economy, improve our air quality and ultimately enhance our overall quality of life.
