Rep. Chris Stewart says the EPA’s proposed standards for smog emissions would be impossible for states like Utah to achieve and could result in up to $1 trillion in new costs for businesses.

“In fact, even the EPA’s conservative cost estimate of $90 billion a year make this proposed rule the most expensive regulation ever considered,” said Rep. Chris Stewart (R-Utah), chairman of the House Science, Space and Technology’s Environment subcommittee.
The EPA is scheduled to propose new ozone standards within the next year and is considering toughening the limit to 60 particles for every billion in the atmosphere, or parts per billion, down from the current standard of 75 set in 2008.
