I think the U.S. Senate race between Orrin Hatch and Dan Liljenquist is really kinda boring right now.
Maybe it’s because we’re in the middle of June and people aren’t thinking much about the election. It just seems that there’s not much going on right now. And a boring race helps Orrin Hatch. If things were more exciting, that would mean either trouble for Hatch or momentum for Liljenquist.
Think about it - Mitt Romney comes to town and the visit is greeted with a big “ho hum.” Other than that, there’s not much to talk about here.
I’m sure news will pick up with Friday’s debate on KSL radio. That should generate some news and liven things up.
But, for now, the whole race feels like it’s on the political back burner, which is likely how Orrin Hatch’s campaign wants it.
I think one of the most intriguing people working for the Liljenquist campaign right now is Jason Miller.
Who is Jason Miller? Glad you asked. He is a consultant with Jamestown Associates. They’re a firm that has produced a number of striking television ads. Here’s one his firm produced for “Make Us Great Again,” the super PAC that supported Texas Governor Rick Perry during his presidential run.
Here’s the firm’s demo reel, and it’s really quite impressive.
Miller has also been linked to a group called Concerned Taxpayers of America. That group launched attack ads against Oregon Rep. Pete DeFazio in 2010. Hilariously, DeFazio went to the group’s headquarters to confront them about the ad. You really should read the whole account of that incident here.
Campaign chair Holly Richardson says Miller is only producing television ads for Liljenquist and is just a vendor. Miller has not responded to inquiries asking him to discuss his media strategy for the campaign.
I think there are five Senators looking at the vacant Senate President slot on Utah’s Capitol Hill.
I’ve been told by those in the know that Wayne Niederhauser and Scott Jenkins are probably the top-two candidates right now. However, don’t be surprised if Curt Bramble, John Valentine or Lyle Hillyard decide to make a run at it.
I think Mitt Romney has the momentum right now.
Just look at what happened in the last week...A bad jobs report, an Obama gaffe about the state of the economy, Mitt Romney raising more money, Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker survives a recall election.
Take all of those things into account and it’s hard to argue against the thought that momentum is swinging toward Romney. However, it’s still June and September is still a long way off.
I think Prometheus was a complete waste of time and money.
I had such high hopes for this film. When I heard Ridley Scott was directing a kinda-sorta prequel to the Alien franchise, I was 100% on board. That’s why the final product was so disappointing.
While the movie was visually stunning, the story was confusing, not well scripted and really pretty boring. The shocks and scary moments really weren’t much and the whole link to the Alien franchise seemed contrived and unnecessary.
This version of the trailer, done entirely on paper, is much better than the entire 2-hour film.
