WASHINGTON, D.C.--Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) announced today that Senator Bob Bennett (R-Utah) will serve on the Ronald Reagan Centennial Commission, a committee formed to develop plans honoring former President Ronald Reagan on the 100th anniversary of his birth.

"I have come to admire Ronald Reagan as one of the most pivotal presidents in our history and I believe his reputation will only grow in the years ahead," said Bennett. "I am particularly honored by the opportunity to participate in the memorial that will help posterity understand the contributions he made to the country and the world."

"Senator Bennett is a strong conservative who has worked to promote President Reagan's ideals and legacy," said McConnell. "I can think of no better person to ensure the activities in honor of President Reagan's 100th birthday are a fitting tribute to one of our nation's greatest presidents."

The Ronald Reagan Centennial Commission Act was passed unanimously by the Senate in May and signed by the president on June 2, 2009. The commission will plan and carry out activities to celebrate Reagan's 100th birthday on February 6, 2011. The 11 member commission includes the secretary of the Interior, four members appointed by the president, two members appointed by the speaker of the House, one member appointed by the House minority leader, two members appointed by the Senate majority leader, and Bennett's appointment by the Senate minority leader.
