Salt Lake City, UTAH -- Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) released the following statement today on the University of Utah officially joining the Pac-12 Conference:

“This is a tremendous day for the University of Utah.  A research institution known for its academic excellences as well as its tremendous athletic programs is joining a Conference created to mirror these two worthy goals.  This day will mark the beginning of another step forward in the grand tradition of the University of Utah.

“The national exposure that will be afforded the University and its teams cannot be overstated.  The Pac-12 will always look back on this day and know that an already outstanding Conference made itself better with the addition of the University of Utah.

“I have been privileged to watch and enjoy the many athletes and coaches who have made the U home for many years and I have always been impressed by the men and women of great character and talent who have played or coached at the University.  I anticipate this great practice will continue with even more gusto and strength from this day forward.

“All I can really say is – Go Utes!”
