Utah Women Encouraged to Run for Political Office

Many groups and organizations provide support for women seeking public office. A women's public leadership training session will be held Saturday, Jan. 14, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Larry H. Miller Center of Salt Lake Community College., 9750 S. 300 West in Sandy. [KSL]

Richard Snelgrove to run for Salt Lake County Mayor

Snelgrove has announced his candidacy for the office now held by Democrat Peter Corroon. The current mayor, will not seek a third term next November. Others who are expected to run for the position include Democrats Ross Romero and Ben McAdams, along with Republican Gary Ott. Republican Mike Winder said he has not ruled out a run. Utah's 2002 Olympics In The Spotlight

Mitt Romney often cites has experience as savior of the 2002 Olympics as he campaigns around the US. The campaign is causing some to take another look at the games, to determine what really happened here. All agree the games were an astounding success. But: "Any well trained chimpanzee could have come in and had a successful Olympics," said Doug Foxley, a Salt Lake City lobbyist and former adviser to Romney's presidential rival Jon Huntsman, Jr. [Reuters]
