Registration ends Monday for Mobile Slopes, a first-in-Utah mobile application development conference hosted and presented by the city of Ogden, Weber State University, USTAR and Moki Networks.

The event takes place March 16 at the Ogden Eccles Conference Center in downtown Ogden. The conference features world-class speakers from all over the country, along with several local entrepreneurs, professionals, and developers who are building the future of mobile apps. These experts will give presentations addressing the latest techniques on developing, marketing, and monetizing apps for mobile phones and tablets.

“This is a great opportunity to learn from and network with successful members of the mobile app community,” said Alex Lawrence, Vice Provost of Innovation and Economic Development at Weber State University and Regional Director of Technology Outreach at USTAR. “We are fast approaching the day when more people will access online content through their phones and mobiles devices than via desktops. This presentation is perfect for business or technical folks that are just starting out and want to know what it takes to get into the mobile app market.

Monetizing Mobile Apps

You have a great idea for an app, but how are you going to make money? This presentation will outline 10 strategies for how you can make money with your apps. It will also cover app business model strategies, how to price apps, and a take a dip into marketing your apps. After learning these 10 strategies, you'll be well on your way to producing the next 'Angry Birds.'

Apps + Device Management

Certain apps require control over a device. Lock down the home button, push wifi credentials, load applications all of these make using mobile devices a possibility in many more use cases. Explore what your app + mobile device management means through kiosks, conference room schedulers and point of sale systems.

Our GeoSpatial Future

Who and what is near me? I need to get home by the shortest route possible! Using pen and paper while I work outside is inefficient; I wish I could do this all on my smartphone. I lay pipes in the ground; it would be nice to be able to see where the existing pipes and power cables run before I dig. The above questions and needs will be the focus of this presentation. WebMapSolutions build mobile applications which solve these and related problems. Using GPS and mapping and geographic information system (GIS) tools, we build mobile geospatial applications. In this presentation we will talk about what we do and how we do it.

The conference also features a forum for developers to demonstrate their apps to the conference attendees called “The Data Pit”. Here developers can make their pitch and answer questions the conference attendees have. A section called “The Lab” will also be made available to attendees that would like one-on-one time with the conference presenters. This is a great opportunity to get face time with these successful developers and entrepreneurs and get your questions answered.
