New features, sharper strategies and more focused tracks will be unveiled at this year’s Governor’s Utah Economic Summit, entitled “Innovation and Investment: Building Utah’s Economy.”  The 2012 summit is co-produced by the Governor’s Office of Economic Development and MediaOne of Utah and will be held on Tuesday, April 10 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the world-class accommodations of Salt City City’s iconic Grand America Hotel.

“Because of our collaborative strength and dogged self-determination, Utah is ranked the best state for business and careers and leads the nation in export growth. The state is ideally positioned now to capitalize on our current economic vitality and develop an increased presence in the global marketplace,” said Governor Gary Herbert, who will be the afternoon’s featured speaker. “The Governor’s Economic Summit provides an extraordinary opportunity for Utah business leaders and economic development officials to converge under one roof and share successful strategies.”

In addition to the Governor’s address, a morning keynote will be given by Union Pacific’s Chief Financial Officer, Robert M. Knight,Jr. Union Pacific is a recognized industry leader for its logistics expertise both across the nation’s railways and throughout the global supply chain.

Morning speeches will be given by Google’s Managing Director, Global Channel Sales Todd Rowe and Dr. Ron Pollina, President and Founder of Pollina Corporate Real Estate and author of Selling Out a Superpower: Where the U.S. Economy Went Wrong and How We Can Turn It Around.

Special recognition will be given to the three Utah recipients of Trade & Industry Development magazine’s Corporate Investment and Community Impact (CiCi) Awards.

Presentations will be given by respected leaders from across the state and nationally recognized experts from around the county.

Sessions will explore subjects ranging from hiring strategies, finance and risk management to social media, global sales and even business reinvention. Each session is pragmatically designed to provide those in attendance with practical “takeaways” which attendees may immediately integrate into their own business practices.

“Utah has proven resilient in the face of recession and through good management has emerged as an economic leader in the nation and the premier global business destination envisioned by Governor Herbert,” said Spencer Eccles, executive director of GOED. “The annual Governor’s Economic Summit is a proven catalyst from which Utah’s business leaders have gained the inspiration and practical training to continue to propel the state’s economy well into the future.”

For the second year in a row, attendees will have the opportunity to network and synthesize the day’s training in a concluding reception. The networking event will feature “Utah’s Own” food grown or manufactured in the state of Utah and prepared onsite by Utah culinary students under the instruction of Grand America’s chefs.
