The East Side Voter Forum has polled delegates on their picks in contested races over the past 6 elections. During that time, members say they’ve accurately predicted which candidates either win or get out of convention to a primary.

Last Saturday the group polled about 250 delegates on the Republican race for Salt Lake County Mayor. That preferential ballot predicts Mark Crockett and Richard Snelgrove should emerge from the Salt Lake County Republican convention to face off in a primary election.

East Side Voter Forum member Clark Larsen says, while their votes have been highly predictive in the past, you can’t rule out Mike Winder.

“Winder ran a very close third-place in our preferential ballot,” says Larsen. “Snelgrove did edge him out slightly, but not by much.”

About 250 delegates showed up for the Salt Lake County Mayor’s debate. They were asked to rate the candidates by preference from first through sixth. In each round, the candidate with the lowest number of votes was eliminated, and their votes re-allocated.

The group will host a debate and preferential vote for Republican candidates for U.S. Senate this coming Saturday at the Holladay City Hall from 6-8 pm.

I would note that Mike Winder was only 2 votes below Richard Snelgrove on the second round of balloting! Yesterday the Right Corner Caucus did a poll (not preferential) and Mike Winder had 42% and Mark Crockett had 30% and Richard Snelgrove had 20%. As a delegate I find this really interesting and don't think there will be any run-away candidate. All three are great men and seem like strong candidates for the GOP! I look forward to convention this upcoming Saturday.
