Are you sitting down? Here's a stat that will blow you away. Barack Obama leads Mitt Romney among women aged 18-29 by an astonishing 45 points.

The Washington Post says
that staggering number has to be terrifying to Republicans.

Here are the breakdowns of women by age group:

What GOP strategists have to hope is that as these women age, their views on the two parties change. Or, that this massive gender gap among young women is unique to Obama and Romney and won’t be replicated when other candidates run for president in four, eight or twelve years time. Or that the intense focus on contraception and other women’s issue during the Republican presidential primary process is temporarily skewing Romney’s numbers negatively among young women.

No GOP presidential candidate since George W. Bush has won the women's vote, and his margin of victory was only one point. When Republicans lose the women's vote by more than 11 points, it's extremely difficult to win the White House because women are an increasingly large part of the electorate.
