Romney and the Youth Vote

Mitt Romney's campaign says they will be going big in trying to win the youth vote in 2012.

Politico says
Romney's advisors plan to try and eat into the 66-point margin Barack Obama enjoyed among young voters in 2012.

That may be part of the reason that he has stayed away from slamming Ron Paul — a hit with young voters on the campaign trail as he stumps mainly on college campuses these days. Romney may hope to convert some of the Paul loyalists to his cause if Paul ultimately exits the race.

Though the Romney campaign did not share specifics of their strategy, an aide told POLITICO that they view the youth vote as key to their strategy in November and that they plan to put significant resources into turning out young voters for Romney.

They’ll be up against strong competition from the Obama campaign: Obama, who invested heavily in harnessing youth energy and votes in 2008, is putting significant effort into repeating that effort in 2012.
