Cruz Looks to Help Lee Push Small Government Agenda

Texas Senate candidate Ted Cruz is hoping to join forces with Mike Lee, Rand Paul, and other Senate Tea Party darlings, who need more strength in numbers to influence the way Washington operates.

Reports The Dallas Morning News:

Two of the senators who have blazed the trail Cruz is trying to follow, Paul and Mike Lee of Utah, have been influential in changing the conversation and getting attention for their issues, particular on federal spending. But even their supporters back home acknowledge they don’t have enough strength yet to force substantive changes to how Washington operates.

Paul “needs reinforcements,” said David Adams, a Kentucky tea party leader who managed Paul’s campaign in 2010.

Paul and Lee, along with Florida’s Marco Rubio, and their political godfather, South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint, bring a high-octane combativeness that stands in contrast to the more conventional sort of advocacy offered by Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, Cruz’s rival in the July 31 runoff.
