By all accounts this is going to be a big year for Republicans in Utah. After all, Mitt Romney is at the top of the ticket and should drive big numbers for the GOP. But some new poll numbers may give Democrats a little bit of hope come November.

Poll numbers obtained by Utah Policy from the polling firm FM3 shows Jim Matheson's favorability rating is slightly ahead of Mitt Romney's in Salt Lake County.

46% of voters in Salt Lake County rate Mitt Romney as "very favorable" while 16% say their perception of him is "somewhat favorable." Jim Matheson gets a 26% "very favorable rating" and a 38% "somewhat favorable. That means Romney's net favorability is 62% while Matheson is at 64%.

Romney also has a higher "unfavorable" rating in the county than Matheson - with 33% rating him as either "very" or "somewhat unfavorable." Matheson's unfavorable rating is just 24%.

The survey has a margin of error of =/- 4.9%.
