The Utah House Democratic Caucus released the following statement on H.B. 267 Public Sector Labor Union Amendments:
“We are extremely disappointed in the passage of HB 267 Public Sector Labor Union Amendments from the Utah Senate. We call on Governor Cox to listen to the overwhelming number of Utahns who oppose this bill and employ his veto power.
This legislation revokes the right to collective bargaining from our Utah public employees. It takes away the ability of our education professionals, police officers, firefighters, and other public employees to fight for better wages and safer working environments. H.B. 267 will affect tens of thousands of hard-working public servants who fight every day for a higher quality of life for all Utahns.
We are inspired by how our union employees and supporters made their presence felt in the Capitol throughout the entire legislative process. The overwhelming support for our public employees is admirable and represents one of Utah’s best qualities: coming together for each other. No matter the outcome, the Utah House Democrats stand with Utah workers and recognize that they are an integral part of our state’s success.”
