Property tax notices arrive soon and include important resources for Salt Lake County residents

The Salt Lake County Treasurer’s Office will begin mailing and emailing 2025 property tax notices in early October. This year’s notices include several important resources intended to help residents better navigate their property taxes, protect against fraud, and access unclaimed property.

One of the most notable resources is expanded information on 211, a free statewide resource connecting residents with community assistance programs. Notices also highlight the Salt Lake County Recorder’s Office Property Watch program, a free fraud-prevention service that alerts property owners to any document recorded on their property, helping residents safeguard against title or deed fraud.

Additionally, taxpayers are encouraged to review the Utah State Treasurer’s Unclaimed Property program. Each year, millions of dollars in unclaimed property, such as dormant bank accounts, uncashed checks, and other financial assets, are turned over to the state. Residents can search the database to see if they have funds waiting to be claimed.

These resources are in addition to the Utah Department of Environmental Quality’s radon detection notice, which has appeared on tax notices in previous years.

“We want residents to know their property tax notice is more than a bill, it’s also a resource,” said Sheila Srivastava, Salt Lake County Treasurer. “The inclusion of these public and non-profit resources ensure taxpayers are connected to services focused on financial relief, protecting their property, keeping them safe, and even reuniting them with money or assets they may not know they’re owed. All these valuable community resources are supported by our state legislature, and we encourage taxpayers to use them.”

Property owners can expect to receive their notices by mail or email in the coming days. For more information on property tax payments, assistance programs, and fraud prevention resources, visit saltlakecounty.gov/treasurer or call the Treasurer’s Office at 385-468-8300.
