WHAT:
The Utah State Bar’s Young Lawyers Division (YLD) will host a free Wills for Heroes estate planning clinic for first responders, military veterans, and their spouses. Volunteer attorneys will prepare essential estate planning documents, including wills, health care directives, and financial powers of attorney, at no cost for eligible participants and their spouses.
The Wills for Heroes program is a nationwide initiative designed to help public servants protect their families and ensure their wishes are clearly documented. Participants complete an intake questionnaire in advance and meet one-on-one with volunteer attorneys during the clinic to finalize their documents. Completed documents are signed, witnessed, and notarized onsite.

This event
- Honors Local Heroes: The event recognizes the vital contributions of firefighters, police officers, paramedics, and other first responders who risk their lives daily to keep communities safe.
- Community Impact: Many veterans and first responders lack access to essential estate planning services. This initiative ensures they and their families are legally protected—often for the first time.
- Volunteerism in Action: Utah attorneys are donating their time and expertise, demonstrating the legal profession’s commitment to public service.
This program utilizes specialized software to create estate planning documents based on pre-submitted questionnaires. First responders walk away with professionally prepared wills, living wills, and healthcare and financial powers of attorney free of charge.
