Bishop Bill to Save Utah Taxpayers Moves Forward

In June, House Committee on Natural Resources Chairman Rob Bishop introduced HR 5468, a bill to allow the Weber Basin Water Conservancy District to accelerate capital repayments to the federal government.

Wednesday, HR 5468 went before a full committee markup, and has now been sent on to the full House Floor with a favorable recommendation.

Chairman Bishop offered the following statement:

“This bill is simply common sense. The manager of the Water District supports it, the Department of the Interior supports it, and most importantly, it is a good thing for the taxpayers. By allowing the District to pay the full balance of its debts, the consumer will no longer bear the burden of covering the interest, and the federal government can invest the funds into areas where taxpayer money would otherwise be spent.”
