Rep. Mia Love is reintroducing her bill to give the people of Utah, and the entire nation, a stronger voice in the legislative process and limit legislation to “One Subject at a Time.”

“I’ve heard from so many people who want each bill to stand or fall on its own merits,” Rep. Love said.  “There is strong support to fix the broken legislative practice of passing multi-rider, large, 11th-hour bills that Washington has been so fond of in the past.”

The practice of stacking unrelated issues together into one massive bill continues to outrage the American people.  The One Subject at a Time Act would:

“This is another way I’m working to bring Utah values to Washington,” Rep. Love said.  “The Utah Constitution has a similar provision that states: ‘No bill shall be passed containing more than one subject, which shall be clearly expressed in its title.’ ”

In recent years, members of both parties have passed large, complex bills with limited hearing, amendments or debate.  Rep. Love says that practice contributes to our nation’s debt and erodes the American people’s trust in elected officials.
