Podcast: Bernick and Schott on politics #337

Bob Bernick and Bryan Schott dissect the week in Utah politics.

Jim Bennett and the United Utah Party win their lawsuit to get on the ballot in November’s special congressional election. Will they have an impact on that election?

They might be able to make some political hay in Salt Lake County which has an unusually high number of independent voters compared to the rest of the state.

Speaking of elections, another county mistakenly sent GOP ballots to unaffiliated voters, which is sending the tin foil hat crowd into overdrive with conspiracy theories.

The Gary Ott situation is almost finished as he finally resigned. The Salt Lake County Republican Party will pick a replacement for Ott this month, but that will be after the party concludes their investigation into any possible wrongdoing by Julie Dole in the Ott affair.

Speaker of the House Greg Hughes is plowing forward with his efforts to quell the violence surrounding the downtown Salt Lake City homeless population, but there won’t be a special session to address those issues.

Gov. Gary Herbert will hold a fundraiser to help the Utah GOP tackle their debt problem.

Plus Anthony Scaramucci, discrimination, immigration, Stephen Miller and Jon Acosta in this week’s “Holy crap! Trump did what?”
