Democrat Kurt Weiland files for CD1 race

A recent FEC filing shows that Democrat Kurt Weiland is in the race to challenge longtime Republican Rob Bishop in Utah’s First Congressional District.

Previously, Weiland was the Democratic nominee in the 2016 House Race against Rep. Ray Ward, R-Bountiful. Ward won that race by 43-points over Weiland.

Weiland is the owner of Jefferson Smith Training and Consulting, and a retired Army officer who previously taught at West Point.

Bishop, the chair of the House Natural Resources Committee, has held the seat in CD1 since 2002. In August Bishop announced the 2018 campaign would be his last.
