Thatcher also is working on legislation to help schools identify visitors to public schools in order to better keep kids safe.
Thatcher wants to make the state sex-offender database available to schools so they can check visitors against that list.
“Some schools are very diligent about asking for identification from visitors and checking them out. Other schools I’ve visited have been very lax,” he says. “I come to the office to sign in and they tell me ‘it’s fine’ for me to go in. No! It’s not okay! I should have to wear a bell around my neck when I visit.”
