Riverton now hiring for officers and sergeants to staff new police department

Riverton City is now accepting applications for officer and sergeant positions to serve in the new Riverton Police Department. This comes following the Riverton City Council’s decision in October 2018 to officially split ways with Unified Police Department, and subsequent hiring of Don Hutson to serve as the city’s chief of police.

“We’re looking for hard-working, service-oriented officers who are excited to bring a progressive model of policing to the citizens of Riverton,” said Hutson. “We hope to staff our department here with the best and brightest.”

It is anticipated that Riverton City will fill 26 officer positions and 6 sergeant positions. New hires would begin work early June, in preparation for the Riverton Police Departments July 1 launch date.

“We’re working to create a culture of excellence in the new department where officers can participate in the development of best practices and procedures,” said Hutson. “The once-in-a-career opportunity we have in Riverton is very compelling for officers who are mired in the bureaucracy of an established police agency.”

Applications will be accepted through the end of March. For application details or more information, please visit rivertonpd.org.
