The Refugee Justice League recommended to refugees seeking the eviction relief and mortgage forbearance relief provided by the CARES Act (COVID-19), that they use two new web-based programs developed to help them apply for these benefits – Hello Lender (www.hellolandlord.org) and Hello Landlord (www.hellolender.org).
Hello Lender was released last week to help people under financial distress to delay paying their mortgages under the CARES Act. Hello Landlord was released today to help people avoid an eviction under the CARES Act. Both of these programs are offered as a public service free of charge.
Hello Lender and Hello Landlord, developed by SixFifty, the legal technology subsidiary of Wilson Sonsini, are straightforward and simple to use. Both applications can easily be navigated by the refugee applicant alone or with the help of a family member, friend, social worker, or counselor. The web-based programs, after leading applicants through a series of questions, generates a formal, customized qualification correspondence ready for printing and mailing.
“Several of those who worked on Hello Lender and Hello Landlord are also members of the Refugee Justice League,” said Kimball Dean Parker, CEO of SixFifty. “We had refugees in mind as one of the groups that could use these tools to help them keep their homes.”
The Refugee Justice League is comprised of over 800 member attorneys. Its membership is drawn from large law firms, small law firms, governmental agencies, educational institutions and business-related entities. While the League offers attorneys multiple and diverse opportunities for League sponsored refugee assistance, the League encourages its members to independently and on their own initiative serve the refugee community.
