All donations up to the total goal of $10,000 will be matched by generous donors Kem and Carolyn Gardner.
For over 117 years, Utah Food Bank has stayed true to its objective of serving those in need throughout the state. It works with community partners and volunteers to continue making an impact and fulfilling their mission of Fighting Hunger Statewide.
Because of the global pandemic, the need has never been greater – the number of Utahns facing hunger has jumped from 374,000 to 511,000. Even more alarming is that 1 in 5 Utah children don’t know where their next meal will come from. Since the beginning of 2020, Utah Food Bank has distributed 64.1 million pounds of food, an increase of 14.3 million pounds over the same time period in 2019. Utah Food Bank distributes food free-of-charge via a statewide network of 203 partner agencies located in all 29 counties, along with several direct service programs aimed at helping the most vulnerable populations in our state – children and seniors. Combining these direct service programs with its emergency food assistance services truly impacts the lives of Utahns who live in a world of food insecurity.
Last year, Utah Food Bank distributed 44.1 million meals via a statewide network of 203 partner agencies located in all 29 counties. Besides being one of only a handful of food banks that distributes food free-of-charge to partner agencies, they also offer several direct service programs to help the most vulnerable populations in our state — children, and seniors. Combining these direct service programs with its emergency food assistance services truly impacts the lives of Utahns experiencing food insecurity.
The late Reverend Martin Luther King preached the importance of community service and famously said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, what are you doing for others?” We honor his legacy on the day we celebrate his work, Monday, January 18, 2021.
