Did you know that out of 737 history makers taught in schools in every state, only 24%, or 178 are women? And only 15 women are taught in 10 states or more! Join an amazing line-up of thought leaders, historians and education specialists as we examine – why so few women are included in the curriculum – and how educators can expand U.S. history to be more inclusive and accessible.
The 2-hour event hosted by Errin Haines, editor-at-large of The 19th and streaming on American Masters YouTube Live will feature a keynote by renowned cultural historian, Martha S. Jones (author of Vanguard: How Black Women Broke Barriers, Won the Vote, and Insisted on Equality for All), and poetry and land acknowledgment by U.S. Poet Laureate Joy Harjo. A dynamic panel discussion and live chat Q&A will investigate factors that have limited women’s presence in textbooks, educational standards, and curriculum. PBS Digital Innovator All-Star high school teachers will also demonstrate lesson plans that include the historical accomplishments of women and are tailor-made for virtual, in-person, and hybrid learning, such as the Unladylike2020 collection on PBS LearningMedia.
The Where Are the Women? Summit promises to be thought-provoking, informative and inspiring. You don’t want to miss it! The summit is free and open to the public.
