Nearly 9 out of 10 Utahns think the BYU and University of Utah football teams should play every year.
The long running rivalry between the two schools is taking a two-year break. They're not scheduled to meet again until 2016.
The hiatus came about when the University of Utah joined the Pac-12 Conference while BYU went independent. The rivalry stretches back to at least 1922.
The University of Utah has won four straight games.
A new UtahPolicy.com survey finds 87% of Utahns think the two schools should meet on the gridiron every year. That includes 55% who say they should "definitely" meet annually.
84% of those who attended the University of Utah and 87% who attended Brigham Young University.
Even Utahns who attended schools other than BYU or the U want to see the rivalry rejoined. They include:
- 96% of fans who attended Utah State University.
- 98% of fans who attended Weber State University
- 70% who went to Southern Utah University
- 100% who attended Dixie State University
- 89% who went to Utah Valley University
The survey was conducted January 8-13, 2015 by Dan Jones and Associates among 402 Utah residents. It has a margin of error of +/- 5.0%.
