World Trade Center Utah, in partnership with the Governor's Office of Economic Development and the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce is delighted to welcome His Excellency Dr. Awang Adek Bin Hussin, Ambassador to the United States for Malaysia, who will be joining us for a luncheon at the World Trade Center Building in Salt Lake City on Thursday, September 3, 2015 from 12 to 1:30 p.m.
We would like to invite the Utah business community and education leaders to join us. The Ambassador will give a short presentation on the current economic, cultural, political and educational situation in the Malaysia.
Due to high demand for the luncheon, seating is reserved for attendees currently or considering doing business in Malaysia. The United States and Malaysia have been negotiating partners in the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), a regional trade agreement that will support the creation and retention of jobs in the U.S. as well as promote economic growth. The U.S. and Malaysia regularly discuss bilateral trade and investment issues on APEC, ASEAN and the WTO. In 2013, Malaysia was the United States’ 25th largest export destination and the second-largest trading partner among the 10 ASEAN members in Southeast Asia. U.S. exports to Malaysia increased 19 percent from 2003 to 2013. The U.S. is Malaysia’s fourth-largest trading partner. The top U.S. exports to Malaysia include agricultural products, machinery, aircraft, medical instruments, optic, iron and steel. The United States remains the largest foreign investor in Malaysia both with new investments and total stock. The U.S. and Malaysia belong to a number of the same international organizations including the World Trade Organization, United Nations, International Monetary Fund Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum, World Bank and ASEAN Regional Forum.
