EnterpriseSLC, a program launched by Mayor Ralph Becker and his economic team and led by associate dean of the David Eccles School of Business Natalie Gochnour to assess and construct improvements to Salt Lake City's economic development policies will be presented to the Salt Lake City Council in a working session on Tuesday, August 25 at 2:45 p.m.
As a response to the recommendations presented in the EnterpriseSLC research, Salt Lake City Community and Economic Development Director Jill Remington-Love will present a 3-Point Economic Development Pledge, based on Gochnour’s work, to continue to build upon the City’s unprecedented economic vitality.
The pledge promises to:
· Address existing barriers to economic development
· Support business through effective and efficient use of economic-development tools
· Foster new, and reaffirm existing, partnerships with organizations who share the goal to create a Great American City
“Natalie not only possesses fantastic economic expertise, but also has an uncanny ability to assess complex policy issues and distill them into clear paths forward,” said Mayor Becker. “We are a City experiencing unprecedented economic success. Our key economic indicators are all trending upwards, but we cannot, and will not, stop asking ourselves how we can do better.”
The pledge points to the recently re-tooled Economic Development Loan Fund as an example of how the City is prioritizing its role in cultivating success for local businesses. The program has generated some $2.7 million in funding for 17 Salt Lake City businesses since the reorganization effort nine months ago.
