Ron Gibson of Weber County was elected president of Utah Farm Bureau Federation during the opening of the organization’s state convention. Taking office immediately following the convention, Gibson is the 17th president in the history of Utah Farm Bureau, which is Utah’s largest general farm organization.
Gibson was serving on the Utah Farm Bureau Board of Directors, representing Weber, Morgan and Summit Counties. He has also been serving as the Weber County Farm Bureau President. Elected to succeed him on the board was another Weber County farmer, Jim Wayment of Ogden.
Leland Hogan of Tooele County retired as the current president, having served in that position for 14 years. Hogan also served previously as the organization’s vice president and on its board of directors. He announced this past summer he would not run for reelection.
“Farm Bureau elected a great team of new leaders today,” Hogan said.“Ron has a deep passion for serving agriculture and Farm Bureau members, and will work hard to advocate for our industry.”
Gibson is the 5th generation to runs the Gibson’s Green Acres dairy farm in West Weber, and he looks forward to his children being the 6th generation to do the same. The Gibson dairy – which includes 1,500 Holstein and jersey cattle – has been in operation since 1869. Gibson also farms alfalfa, corn and barley.
“I am very excited to continue my service to Farm Bureau members, and to highlight the contributions agriculture makes to our society today,” Gibson said. “More than ever, farmers and ranchers need to reach out and build relationships in our communities to help our non-farming neighbors understand the needs and pressures on agriculture.”
Presidents and members of the Board of Directors of the Utah Farm Bureau are elected from among the delegate body at the Utah Farm Bureau Federation’s annual convention, which took place this past weekend. Gibson will serve a two-year term. Previously, Gibson also served as the chair of the Utah Farm Bureau’s Young Farmers & Ranchers Committee.
