Florida Congressional Candidate Stops Fundraising, Calls it ‘Disgusting’

Randy PerkinsFlorida Democrat Randy Perkins, a candidate for Congress, says he won’t raise campaign funds anymore and is giving donations back to anyone who asks for them.

Politico Florida writes Perkins, who is independently wealthy, will no longer spend time raising money for his campaign. So far, Perkins has raised more than $2.7 million dollars, mostly from people he knows. Now, that he’s tapped out that well of campaign money, Perkins says he won’t turn to strangers to help fund his campaign.

“In order for me to keep raising money, I now have to go to people I don’t know. They don’t know who the hell I am,” said Perkins, who is running for 18th Congressional District seat in South Florida. “My own team says ‘Randy, you’ve got to keep raising money.’ Whether you’re running as a Democrat or a Republican, the expectation is you’ve got to raise, raise, raise, raise. It’s not something I’m willing to do. It’s disgusting and appalling.”

Perkins has already given his own campaign $2 million
